Mountainside Pathology, LLC was founded in 2023 by Dr. Dean Joelson to provide Pathology services to Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center in Cartersville, GA. On July 1st, 2026, Mountainside Pathology expanded to cover Piedmont Augusta Hospital, in Augusta, GA.
Our team is growing,* and we are excited for the opportunity to help the patients, physicians, and hospital teams at, now, two hospitals within the Piedmont system.

Billing
We are a small business, and, as such, we rely on a third-party billing company to help handle the complexities of medical billing. If you have a billing question, they will be able to help. If you continue to have issues, please let Dr. Joelson know (his phone and email are below).

Dr. Joelson welcome calls from all – patients, physicians, the general public. But, please, be respectful.
Also, I do not give out pathology results over the phone to patients (or family members). I am, however, happy to discuss one of my reports once you have received a signed-out copy from your physician or MyChart.
Finally, please note that I’m a diagnostician – I diagnose things. I do not treat patients nor do I offer opinions on medical care, prognosis, etc. I can discuss pathology reports, but patients need to consult their other physicians if they have additional medical questions.
